NIGHTMARES ON WAX
I remember the first Nightmares on Wax song I heard, it's called "Nights Interlude". As soon as I heard it, I was sold. I MEAN, ERRRRMMMM, HELLO! He samples the fucking Pharcyde! "Nightmares on Wax" is such a brilliant name. That's the exact feeling you get when you listen to this dude. It's almost creepy, but in such a way that you wish you could listen to it in your nightmares forever.
Electronic sounds and hip hop beats make up this man from the UK. What's not to love?! Yum. Eat it for breakfast.
This veteren b-boy takes hip hop and experiments with it. He loops, dubs, splices, chops, backtracks.. he basically takes hip hop, electro and treats them like chocolate and strawberries.. two things that are already good transformed into something even better.
Dj Ease (his dj name) released his latest in 2009.. but if you're just finding out who he is, his discography is a heavy belt, so go ahead, trip to the hop, and get in the know, or should I say, the now. Hehe. I'm hilarious.
Smooth out and cool out my bruvvahz, and listen to deez tracks.
The fuck was that about.
This one is my current favorite:

M.I.A.
MUSIC SERIES
I can't exactly remember how I discovered M.I.A., but I remember the feeling being absolutely magical. She was everything I wanted from a female musician. She rapped well, she was a humanitarian, she dressed well, and she had swag to match. This girl is the definition of a boss lady, and I fucking love her for that. I was able to catch her live five years ago, and she tore the fucking roof off! This girl is phenomenal live. If you have a shot to see her, do.
Her music contains all the elements you're looking for, world, electronica, hip hop, pure awesome. What she feeds to the world through both fashion and music is that of no other. She's never afraid to test boundaries, and she does it well.
She was raised during a Sri Lankan war, and has the most hurtful and terrifying stories to tell. Yet she tells them honestly, and gives back to her people. I remember reading this article on her where times were so rough, she was literally hiding under dead bodies, trying to avoid soldiers that wanted to kill her. You make it through that, attend college, and develop a music career that is based on realism and originality, and fuck! You've got one of the dopest musicians to ever grace the fucking planet.
Rihanna and all these pop twats are just a bootleg carbon wannabe copy of one of the sickest female musicians on the scene right now. She rules. Take it from one of my favorite M.I.A. songs, ever..
Get 'em girl!

M83
MUSIC SERIES
If my love for M83 hasn't been expressed enough.. I'll try now. I. Fucking. Love. M83. Like it's ridiculous. "Midnight City" is a song created for kings and queens. For Gods. For princesses! I have never heard this song whilst out.. that was until, they played it for me on my birthday. It was absolutely perfect. I was kind of half glad they didn't play it on New Years, because hearing it on my birthday made me appreciate it that much more. I know there's a zillion and one remixes out for it right meow.. but yo.. the original. Nobody's touching it.
They named themselves off a galaxy, and that's pretty much how you feel when you're listening to them. You just get lost in this some sort of hypnosis type state where everything feels like.. water. You just flow, and your whole body turns into some sort of orgasmic type lovah lovah yum yum yes. Now I don't know what that means exactly, but I know that I mean it.
Really though, if ever I'm in a shit ass mood, go ahead and play me some M83. I'll probably fall in love with you, instantly.
I know I've only spoke of "Midnight City".. but it's amaze. The video kicks ass too.
Enjoy!

THE WEEKND
MUSIC SERIES
OH ABEL TESFAYE! WHY AREN'T WE MARRIED YET?! I seriously think about fucking this guy at least once a day. I feel like my love for the Weeknd isn't shown off as much as it should be.. or maybe it is, and maybe I'm annoying by now.. BUT, BUT, if you've listened to the Weeknd at all, you understand why I'm so crazy for this guy.
This guy has made a haunting kind of R&B with an electric type feel that absolutely NO ONE has done before. His voice is amazing and covers rifts of glory. He has been compared to the XX, and for good reason. I believe not so much for the similarities (which there are), but more so for the fact that he literally stepped out into the world with something so NEW. Music is so shot these days, not with this man though. He creates refreshing depressing sexy tunes that literally send chills throughout your body. He describes everything so well that you paint the picture in your head.. or, you've been in the same situation before but didn't know how to say it. Abel Tesfaye does that for you!
This Torontonian put three tracks on the internet. "Loft Music", "What you Need", and "The Morning". The first I heard was "What you Need". I was instantly hooked, five seconds in. No joke. I had everyone blowing me up telling me to give this guy a chance, and when I did.. I couldn't stop. I'd search my ass off, only having those three songs to keep my craving down. Eventually, he dropped a mixtape. I over-played that shit everywhere I went. Then his second tape dropped.. which I loved, but my love for the first kept me banging it for longer.
Listening to the Weeknd is like having your virginity taken all over again. You're scared, nervous, you hurt a little bit, but at the same time it all feels so fucking good. What's even crazier?! THIS GUY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN ALBUM OUT YET. It's so crazy! HE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A VIDEO! BUT! WAIT! Hold on to your underpants people! ABEL TESFAYE, has let us in on the know.. He is dropping his FIRST, OFFICIAL, video this week. Both myself and my computer will probably explode upon watching it. Seriously.
I FUCKING LOVE YOU SO MUCH TESFAYE! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! PLEASE HEAR MY CRIES!
When I first heard this song I listened to it about thirty times in a row. No joke. This song gets me off every time. Like really, why am I not having sex every time I listen to this?! OH. gahd. The production on this bad boy.. Oh my fucking fuck. Fuck all sorts of ways to this one.
COMING DOWN.. because in all honestly?! Who hasn't felt like this after a party?! Really, though.
and because every word, I cling to.

CRYSTAL CASTLES
MUSIC SERIES
Alice and Ethan, two people who came together to make some lovely bangers. What's better?! Oh. They're Canadian. They are on my top three list of Electronic bands that I would like to see live. I hear nothing but good things about their live shows. They're wild and crazy. A friend of mine has seen them a couple times.. and Alice is always covered in bruises from the intensity of their shows. I dunno about you, but that is fucking bossy. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!
These two met. At the time, Alice was in a punk band. They decided to jam. He secretly recorded her. Threw the songs online, and after a couple years.. record deals came out the woo-hah. Does that sum it up enough?! Thank goodness for the internet!
I've referenced them a few times on my blog, so I hope by now you've gave them a listen.. but if not, go ahead..!
CUZZZZ it's cold outside... wheeeenn you comin home?!

THE XX
MUSIC SERIES
Another group from London..! I told you, London is where it's at. I need to have myself some babies in London and turn them into amazing music making humans. That's the plan. Can't fail with the London good music statistics! Meet the XX. They started out as a foursome but turned into a trio. Their latest and FIRST album is absolutely everything you could ever ask for.
Not only is the album everything and more, but they produced it themselves. If you haven't gave them a listen yet, you've probably heard them on TV.. they blew up, with one album.. and they deserve every penny. If not that, perhaps you've heard of the member, Jamie XX, who puts out fab remixes like nobody's business. They are currently working on their second album which will drop sometime in 2012.. I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR IT! I listen to their first a lot. I also routinely imagine certain songs to be played at my wedding, and sometimes when I walk into a room, I imagine some to be my theme enter song. You can do so too, by taking a listen..
It was hard to pick favorites, because there isn't an XX song I don't like.. but enjoy these!
CRYSTALISED!! YUMYUMYUM.
VCR
INTRO! This is the intro to their album.. If there is ANY, ANY intro that is better than this, I haven't heard it yet. *not interested BBM emoticon*
:)!

SBTRKT
MUSIC SERIES
You can always count on London to feed you musical geniuses. This guy is a little bit of everything, funk, dubstep, R&B, you name it. Disregard his Frank Ocean remix, the only remix from him I didn't approve of.. this guy is gifted. The whole fun thing about SBTRKT is his ode to anonymity. He's been known to say he wants everything to be about the music.. and be about the music, it is. His bio is pretty much impossible to find, actually, any information about him is pretty much hard to find.. but the music he puts forward is so scrumptious, I could eat it all day. I like to share meals though, so lemme throw you my two favorites.
Like really though, as soon as you hit play..
and my absolute favorite!! "Wildfire", sex to the ears, basically.

COOL CALM PETE
Raised in Queens! This dude is that shit. The first song I ever heard off him was from his solo album, "lost", and it was called "Two A.M.". I was sold after that.
This guy has a smoooooth voice, and so is his cadence. There's almost a hypnotizing feel to it. Everything.. just.. flows. It's a lazy-type-sluggish rap.. but the verses are everything but that. Witty, hilarious, and annunciation that makes you appreciate English.. this dude is one to love as soon as you press play.. so take a listen.
Here's my favorite from him, off his first solo project:
Whenever I listen to Cool Calm Pete, I just get stupid hot. That voice fuckin' does something to you, man. Like, I'm not even really attracted to dude.. but every time I hear this song. I wanna take off all my clothes. He's comical as shit too! With, "then she kissed the dick, pure bliss!".. aweeezzzuumm. Like, let's fuck already.

THE FRATELLIS
Meet The Fratellis! Now, whether their name came from "The Goonies" or not, I am completely un-aware of.. I'd like to believe it did.. WHO DOESN'T LOVE THE GOONIES?! The Fratellis are my favorite indie rock band. THEY ARE SO FUCKING AMAZING! & their sound is too!
These boys are from Scotland. Costello Music is my favorite album from them, and I will support their music forever. I can't remember how I found out about these guys, but I remember hearing one song and spending the entire night downloading.. the next day I was on the hunt for their albums. If you've ever wondered why my name on bbm is "Chelsea Dagger", it is because of my favorite Fratelli song. SO TURN YOUR FUCKING SPEAKERS UP AND SPILL YOUR DRINK, because this gem is worth the damage:
I'll throw you one more, because it's worth it.. and I'm not done singing til my throat is sore.
Is this how it is in Scotland?! If so, can we go? like.. now.

BENJAMIN FRANCIS LEFTWICH
There's something so perfect about Benjamin. I mean, take away that calm, relaxing, soothing voice that grabs your heart and makes you want to scream out and cry in a beautiful way that you have never done before! *takes breath*. Take that away, and you're left with such a peaceful, talented soul, who makes lovely music.
This man is a year younger than me and is from England.. What else do you need to know?! England produces some of the most talented people, evah! My two favorite songs from him are posted below. PICTURES HITS ME LIKE A WARM SPOONFUL OF GRANDMA'S PORRIDGE. Absolute bliss.
Totally perfect for a rainy afternoon. I hope it rains tomorrow lol.

A FINE FRENZY
MEET ALISON SUDOL, also known as "A Fine Frenzy". This beautiful lady made one of my favorite songs in existence. I guess my whole theme right now are musicians who were born to artistic parents because Alison's are drama teachers.
"A Fine Frenzy" was also taken from A Midsummer Nights Dream. Well, when I was 10, I was in the play. SOOOO, the Shakespeare appreciation is a mutual feeling. Who doesn't love a book worm?!
I know I reference her a lot on my blog, she's just that amazing. She puts emotion into her songs, and you feel it like chills down your spine. This song is one of my favorites in the world, and I listen to it so much I should be getting paid for it lol. A break up was always followed by "Almost Lover" on loop.. but I love every second of it without a break up. It's just that good! She's also drop dead gorgeous. I could compliment and admire A Fine Frenzy all day, but I'll shut up and let her voice win you over.
I'd never want to see you un-happy, I thought you'd want the same, for me..
I'll throw one more down because the world deserves it.
Isn't she just PERFECT?!

INGRID MICHAELSON
OH HOW I LOVE HER. Her voice is so perfect. Something about it just pulls you in and throws you into a wonderful spiral. This indie girl puts indie on a beautiful platform, and it's lovely to listen to. Being her father was a composer, her mother was a sculptor, it's easy to see how such an artistic family could create such an artist. However, I'm sure the degree in theater, years of piano lessons and vocal coaching played a part too. THIS WOMAN IS UNSTOPPABLE. The following video is my favorite from her, I dream up an extravagant wedding every time I hear it. It's a fan-made video so it's not exactly up to par with her ACTUAL video, but I couldn't post that one because stupid youtube won't let me embed it. ANYWAY, enjoy.
PLUS.. she not only creates good music, but she also listens to great music. Check out this cover she did of Radiohead's "Creep".
I KNOW. Crazy amazing right!?

ATMOSPHERE
What's to say about Atmosphere that I haven't said already? They're my absolute favorite hip hop group ever. I've loved them since I was a kid, and they were the first concert I ever paid for. Back then, they were only around for 8 years, and hadn't toured much.. so yeah. It was something like $16. Which was ridiculous. I can't believe how cheap it was.
Slug took my cd and wrote, "slug loves botcho".. and ladies and germs, that was my first groupie moment. That's the moment I knew, that hip hop had become my entire life.
I think the reason why I love them so much is that they're from Minneapolis, and the shit Slug writes about is so Winnipeg. Being the two cities are so close, a lot of his experiences seem so Winnipeg like. His flow seems so effortless, yet his vocabulary isn't.. I remember sitting for hours in my room, rewinding tracks just so I could catch that one line one more time.. and I did that for every song, and every track. There isn't a bad Atmosphere song out there.. and although I'm fully in love with Slug, let me say that FELT is amazing just as much.
When I first met slug, the first thing I said to him was "You smell good". Yeah, it didn't go well.. because what I REALLY want to ask him is, "Who is Lucy?". I MEAN, this whole time I've been thinking it was alcohol or MAYBE women.. but I want him to answer. SO THE NEXT TIME I MEET HIM, I plan to not be so giddy and actually ask what I've been longing to ask him these past seven years.
Anyway, instead of posting the cliche "Fuck You Lucy", I'm posting "Guns and Cigarettes". Too many people don't understand "Fuck You Lucy" and only like it because it's the "cool" song. Fuck all that, dig Slug cause he can actually rap.. and guns and cigarettes is definitely one of my favs haha
FUCK IT! LET'S POST SCAPEGOAT TOO!
Enjoy!

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE
At one point in my life, Immortal Technique was my favorite rapper. The year was 2002. I was fourteen. I would play him all day, and my mom would approach me with, "Are you really listening to this?" and "THIS IS TOO MUCH!". I guess that's what any mom would think if their fourteen year old daughter was bangin' tech records on full blast.. but it's just cause she wasn't listening..
I feel like that's the biggest misconception with Tech. I mean, at one point.. I was like "I love him, but I'll never go to his show, he might punch me out". HAHA. If you read that Source article, you already know.. but now. NOW!! I've definitely grew out of it. I've tried to see him.. missed him unfortunately.. but back to the point. When people hear Tech they freak out.. like he's the illuminati or some shit.. that isn't the case if you actually take it all in.
Dude expresses with such high intellect, struggle, and poverty, and world issues, and corrupt governments.. and he's not just rapping about it. He actually knows what's going on, and is just voicing. That's so admirable. He won't even be produced. He refuses. He wants all his music to be all him, without any suits having any power over him.. so you know he's in this for good reason. & I've dedicated so much time to try and prove this to people. IN TWO seperate instances, I have used Immortal Technique songs for school projects. & although I was highly criticized by teachers and peers for it.. I got through to some people.. the people that actually listened.
Get learned, and buy an Immortal Technique album, or fuck it.. burn it, he just wants you to hear it. FREEDOM OF SPEECH MOTHER FUCKER!

ODD FUTURE WOLF GANG KILL THEM ALL
..cuz if you don't know who these guys are by now, you should kill yaself. Ranging from the ages of 17-24, these dudes are a modern day Wu. I don't know if I'll get dogged for saying that.. but a group of dudes saying the most absurd shit?! Going ape shit on stage?! Seems pretty Wu to me. AND I LOVE IT! The comments people say about these kids should explain it enough. "this shit pulls lil waynes pants down andfucks him in the street", "everybody who is Wolf Gang or supports OF stop and give yourself a pat on the back", TRUTH PEOPLE, TRUTH.
If you're putting together something THIS BIG, all by your fuckin' self. That's shit to be damn proud of. Drake needed Weezy's help, Kanye had Jay. These cats had no one but them fuckin selves.. and they're building a name for themselves. Indie rap has never sounded so fucking good.
Outrageously hilarious, these dudes look like the best kind of people to hang with. So whether you're just on Tyler, or Frank Ocean, or Mellowhype, or the Jet Age of Tomorrow, OR WHATEVER.. these guys are worth your fucking time for a listen. GET IN THE KNOW!
..and if you haven't seen the riot that just happened over tyler, check that too!

LE TIGRE !
Don't even get me started on what happened today. I'll say it was all good til around 8pm. I won't go further. Re-living it isn't something I want to do, but I DO want to say I had a bad 13th. I'll fully throw the blame to Friday the 13th too, fuck you dude!
ANYWAY.. I wanted to throw down Le Tigre for my next choice in the music series.. and although one of the broads was in a punk band before, that apparently was terrible, I LOVE LE TIGRE! AND ! Every time I hear "deceptacon", I go ape shit. A public speaker against sexual abuse is something that I can fully applaud.. and who doesn't love feminism?! Only three albums made since 1999, but this trio makes gems.
I won't say anymore, but I'll throw down a vid. ENJOY THE FUCK OUTTA THIS ONE.

JACK JOHNSON
I LOOOOOVE JACK JOHNSON! I swear, between 2005-2006, there was a straight year where I didn't listen to anything else. He was the only cd I brought into the car.. and I would go to class, and have my headphones blasting him DURING class.. I'd go home and clean, to an mp3 list of nothing but Jack Johnson, and yup. I'd go to sleep to Jack Johnson. I was fully obsessed with him, I still am, just not as crazy. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE HIM!? Such an amazing voice, and such simple, true, lyrics. I wish I woke up to him every morning!
Born in HAWAII, Jack is also an amaaazing surfer.. and he says his influences in music range from Radiohead to A Tribe Called Quest.. AGAIN, how can you not love him?! He is another artist I have yet to see.. but when I do, I can guarantee that I will unleash waterworks as bad as when I saw Nas.. because this folk singer is the fuckin' man of folk. HOW I LOVE YOU SO. I might've just re-kindled my love for this man. Jack Johnson is officially entering my cd player once I leave the computer.
Seriously, starting to cry listening to this. Replay. Replay. Replay.

DAS EFX
My brother and i argue about Das Efx all the time. Not 'cause he doesn't like them. We both equally enjoy the music that comes from this duo.. but he says, "all they say is 'riggidy diggidy dah' before everything". That may be the case, but it's that stupid wtf did he just say that makes these two so comically amazing. Skoob comes from Brooklyn, and Kraayyyyzzzyyyy Draayyyzeee is from Jersey, and they met at university.
The "das" in "Das Efx" stands for Dre And Skoob; of course, efx means effects. EPMD spotted them at a talent show where they lost.. but they signed them anyway. Worked out well. "They Want Efx" samples James Brown. They appeared on Ice Cube's "Check Yoself".. and they were fun. Til they lost te "iggedy". Other rappers saw it was a fun way to rap, and people liked it.. So they copied (Jay-Z, the biter not a writer).
Believe this, I haven't caught these two live. Which is a damn shame. They're continuing to tour, and working on a new album.. so let us all hope it workiddy works out.
I'll also throw down this Fresh Prince clip of Will dancing to Das Efx, because it is equally as great.
I haven't been keeping up my part of the bloggin deal. I KNOW. I've been slacking. I completely disregarded my 25's.. and my weekly series has gone to shit. I mean, when was the last time I did a Sneaker Saturday?! If this was a job, I'd be fired. Luckily, I'm my own boss.. so I get to do whatever the fuck I want.
I've decided to introduce a new series. For the next little while (a month or so, maybe longer, depending..), I'm going to be doing posts on random musicians/bands/artists that I like. Hopefully I'll introduce some new loves, or rekindle lost love affairs. & if I hope for anything, it's so you can have a good listen. This way, I'll not only get to speak on a gazillion artists I like, but I'll also get to a learn a little about them along the way. Hopefully.. this goes well?
