I was put on Lana a while back, by Lex. Immediately fell in love. Now my favorite song by her, currently, is Video Games. If you haven't heard the Jamie Woon remix of it, look it up, it's wonderful. She was on SNL though, and performed it. Her stage presence is definitely that of a new artist, but that voice! I still hate her for being that damn pretty. Is this girl even real?! Like really!? Now before I get into my picture post from my birthday, there are a few thank you's I feel are needed. When my birthday comes along, it's right after New Year's and Christmas, so I'm pretty used to everyone bailing and wanting to just relax. It's so over-whelmingly wonderful when I get so much love. My birthday last year was an absolute gutter birthday. This year though, everyone made me feel extremely awesome, and appreciative of what I HAVE. I don't give a fuck if you don't give me shit, simple things like greetings made this day one of the BEST days in a long time. I haven't been that happy in forever! & I owe it to a few people:
My family, for attending a wonderful dinner at Ichiban. Even though I was really sick, I was really happy to have all of my favorite family members sitting at one table..! & to my lovely sister for setting the whole thing up! And my tea cup that I will use til the end of time! She does great things. To my mom who made me a beaaauutiful mocha cake. To Tina for bringing me a caramel cake, that I devoured.
To Perla, for knowing my love for Wu-Tang and jewellery, and the sweetest card ever. To Maribeth for the favorite show she put me on. My dad was always looking for a way to give back to his community. This year, my sister and I took it to our childhood neighbourhood, and decided to do just that. Upon going house to house, eventually word got out.. and we would have kids anxiously waiting by their doors. One girl screamed from her house as we approached hers, "THEY'RE COMING! THEY'RE COMING! SANTA'S HELPERS ARE COMING!". The feeling was so surreal. Completely nostalgic of my father. I truly believe he was with us that day, because I swear, I could almost feel his big bear hugs around me.
My sister and I met these kids who were so grateful for their gifts, they started to cry. Which in turn, made us cry. We couldn't believe how 5 year olds could be that grateful for something that they felt that strong of an emotion. In summary, it was a complete success. More pics, hit the jump.

WHAT'S WACK WEDNESDAY!?!?! I'LL TELL YOU..

Hit the jump.DAY 1 - MONDAY: I meet this guy, who we shall call, Frank, for the sake of story-telling. Frank is nice, introduces himself and we have a chat about hockey. A random stranger, acting randomly kind. I didn't mind, work brings in a lot of random kind strangers, who I don't mind being randomly kind to in return. Then he asks if I have a Christmas tree. When I reply no, he says, "I could go get you one. They're only like 20 bucks!". I kindly, refused.. but said I'd ask my family, although they weren't really into it. (A kind, lie, that I made up). During this, a woman had slipped, and went into shock.. so I had to stay with her and make sure her legs were elevated until more paramedics came (Thanks college, you helped me help her).. so with all the commotion and business, I had to act randomly kind to another stranger, and he had left.

DAY 2 - TUESDAY: Frank returns. I'm a little un-comfortable with the situation, but put on my best efforts to be polite. This time, however.. he comes bearing a gift. A leather jacket. When I ask him why he brought me a leather jacket, he says, "because you're really nice, and do a great service". I say it's inappropriate, but he insists and leaves the jacket behind. In the jacket pocket, a note is left. It has the following message, "Hey. Here's my phone number", along with his phone number, hearts all over the paper, and also that there's a Christmas surprise in the other pocket. When I check the other pocket, there is a toothbrush, and a condom. I was livid. I'M NO FUCKING HOOKER. I'm HALF your age, and the fact that he even thought I would say yes to this sleepover package made me want to vomit and punch someone out. After crying with anger and trying to calm down, I take matters into the best way I know how. With this, comes the following plan: A friend, who is a police officer will come to my workplace at the same time he arrived today and will try and figure out a solution.

DAY 3 - TODAY (WEDNESDAY): My police officer friend, who we will call Max, comes in at the same time. We drink coffee for about a half hour before finally facing the fact Creepzilla isn't coming around. So, as we're about to pack our things and go.. Frank walks in. HE FUCKING CAME BACK?! Really? My hand started to shake in anger and I gave Max a slight nod. When Max asks to speak to Frank, and asks for a conversation, Frank refuses. Then Max shows him his badge. Frank complies. After a stern talking to, Frank denies he ever made any advances at me, nor did he give me a jacket or condom.. but Max assures him that he needs to leave me alone, and never come back to the area.

Now.. I try to be nice to everyone I work with, and all the people I deal with.. because that's my job. I couldn't believe that this fuckin' fuck, had the idea that he was more special than anybody else I deal with.. OR, that I would even be remotely interested in something of that nature AT ALL. I have never felt so degraded and disgusted in my entire fucking life. For my well-being, and safety, I had someone who is not only an amazing person, but a great friend, come to my rescue. I don't know how the fuck he deals with these creeps on the daily without wanting to fuck up every single one. I am nobody's one night stand, nobody's hooker, and nobody's piece of meat.. and when someone decided to treat me in such a way, I am so fucking lucky that I had the support of phenomenal people willing to make sure I was okay, and comfortable.

These fuckin' creeps need to take a look at their lives and see what the fuck they're doing. You're taking innocence and random kindness and turning that into something that no one wants to do.. solely because of their fucking fear that said stranger could be a creep. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, bums on the street don't ALWAYS get change, but I give my symptahy and change to people I feel need an out. I give smiles and conversations to as many strangers as I can to try and show the world that not everyone is an asshole. BUT, this guy was. He was a fucking dirty, perverted, rude, thoughtless, senseless, bitch ass, mother fucking, prick.. who I HOPE, gets nothing but the fucking worst in life. Rot in hell mother fucker, and I hope to never see your face again. You're the wackest Wednesday that I've ever had in my entire life.. and for that, I wish nothing but the worst for you. Hmph. You can take your phony ass kindness and randomly shove it up your ass, cunt.

I absolutely despise white chocolate. It's a waste of chocolate. My hair has probably been every color you could think of, at least at one point. I have really close male friends, and really close girl friends. I don't get along with females that much. The ones I have are either really similar to me, or feel the same way as me. I am currently obsessed with SBTRKT, Childish Gambino and the Weeknd. It's all you'll hear if you're with me. If anyone dares to ask me about Alex, they will regret it five seconds after. I believe I can get anything that I want. I also believe that believing that I can get anything I want, helps me to get whatever I want. I probably party too much, but I refuse to ever admit that. What is too much anyway?! I mean, if you're not blacking out, not sleeping with somebody random, not catching diseases or missing work, or losing your wallet.. it's completely ok, right?
I believe that people who work hard, deserve just as well of a night off. Partying til 6am and heading to work straight after does affect sleep a little bit.. and perhaps I'm shit tired all the time.. but if my world was all work, no play; I might just slit my wrists.

This guy has made a haunting kind of R&B with an electric type feel that absolutely NO ONE has done before. His voice is amazing and covers rifts of glory. He has been compared to the XX, and for good reason. I believe not so much for the similarities (which there are), but more so for the fact that he literally stepped out into the world with something so NEW. Music is so shot these days, not with this man though. He creates refreshing depressing sexy tunes that literally send chills throughout your body. He describes everything so well that you paint the picture in your head.. or, you've been in the same situation before but didn't know how to say it. Abel Tesfaye does that for you!
This Torontonian put three tracks on the internet. "Loft Music", "What you Need", and "The Morning". The first I heard was "What you Need". I was instantly hooked, five seconds in. No joke. I had everyone blowing me up telling me to give this guy a chance, and when I did.. I couldn't stop. I'd search my ass off, only having those three songs to keep my craving down. Eventually, he dropped a mixtape. I over-played that shit everywhere I went. Then his second tape dropped.. which I loved, but my love for the first kept me banging it for longer.

Alice and Ethan, two people who came together to make some lovely bangers. What's better?! Oh. They're Canadian. They are on my top three list of Electronic bands that I would like to see live. I hear nothing but good things about their live shows. They're wild and crazy. A friend of mine has seen them a couple times.. and Alice is always covered in bruises from the intensity of their shows. I dunno about you, but that is fucking bossy. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!
These two met. At the time, Alice was in a punk band. They decided to jam. He secretly recorded her. Threw the songs online, and after a couple years.. record deals came out the woo-hah. Does that sum it up enough?! Thank goodness for the internet!

Another group from London..! I told you, London is where it's at. I need to have myself some babies in London and turn them into amazing music making humans. That's the plan. Can't fail with the London good music statistics! Meet the XX. They started out as a foursome but turned into a trio. Their latest and FIRST album is absolutely everything you could ever ask for.
Not only is the album everything and more, but they produced it themselves. If you haven't gave them a listen yet, you've probably heard them on TV.. they blew up, with one album.. and they deserve every penny. If not that, perhaps you've heard of the member, Jamie XX, who puts out fab remixes like nobody's business. They are currently working on their second album which will drop sometime in 2012.. I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR IT! I listen to their first a lot. I also routinely imagine certain songs to be played at my wedding, and sometimes when I walk into a room, I imagine some to be my theme enter song. You can do so too, by taking a listen..

It was hard to pick favorites, because there isn't an XX song I don't like.. but enjoy these!

You can always count on London to feed you musical geniuses. This guy is a little bit of everything, funk, dubstep, R&B, you name it. Disregard his Frank Ocean remix, the only remix from him I didn't approve of.. this guy is gifted. The whole fun thing about SBTRKT is his ode to anonymity. He's been known to say he wants everything to be about the music.. and be about the music, it is. His bio is pretty much impossible to find, actually, any information about him is pretty much hard to find.. but the music he puts forward is so scrumptious, I could eat it all day. I like to share meals though, so lemme throw you my two favorites.

Childish Gambino can rap his ass off. He can rap his mother fucking ass off.. and in Camp, he does.. NOT ONLY THAT.. but he can do it lyrically well, he throws some singing in, AND.. he does it all in a refreshing way that makes you appreciate music all over again. I haven't felt this way since hearing NERD for the first time. There's something about that type of hip hop that's so necessary to music, and not many people can do it.
Now emotional music has always been questioned, is it too emo, is it try-hard, does it come off as fake, is this guy a pansy.. well, I didn't ask any of that when I listened to Camp. I understand Drake fans put on for his sultry voice that feeds us endless stories of lost love and sad moments.. but Gambino does this in a different way, and you still hear him. His message comes off easy, and heart-felt. That same message is shown to you in a way that you understand and appreciate. Hello, have you listened to "Heartbeat"?! I could listen to that all day and even if I never committed a fault in life, still feel fucking guilty. It's fucking beautiful.
He's rude, honest, intellectually stimulating, and it feels like a cold beer on a good night. He literally takes all of his secrets and lays them on a table for you to graze through.. and graze through, you must. In "Opener" alone he lets you in on the lost relationship with a cousin. These few lines stuck deep, "and he mad cause his father ain’t around/ he lookin at me now, like ‘why you so fuckin lucky?/ I had a father too/ but he ain’t around so I'ma take it out on you’/ we used to say ‘I love you’/ now we only think that shit/ it feels weird that you’re the person I took sink baths with/ street took you over/ I want my cousin back".
If you ever questioned an actor's development into a rapper, I understand that.. but Monsieur Glover changed the game with this one. He proved himself to be a healthy contestant in the music industry.. and I hope he continues for a very long time because I refuse to stop listening to him. This shit is fucking amazing. I can't preach its worth enough.. oh, and he easily made me feel better about Drake's backpack line when he says "man, fuck a backpacker.. fuck a backpacker with a rhino's dick.". Yeah. I'm good now. He's not trying to be ghetto or hood, he's a guy that can rap good telling you exactly who he is.. and I appreciate that honesty on all sorts of levels.

He did it. He came through with an album that would take every Drake "hater", sit them down, and tell them, "Hey, listen, I'm just saying what I feel here". We hear that in his first song alone with, "the backpackers are back on the bandwagon/ like this was my comeback season/ back, back in the day/". I'll admit.. I wasn't completely satisfied with his first album, and that backpack line hit me hard. I've never claimed to be a backpacker, but I certainly feel like it was directed toward people like me. Those who gave the Torontonian a hard time actually shook their heads in shame, at least I did. May I still complain about that "paint dryin" line though, yo Drizzy, we're over that kindergarten shit.
He stepped on to the stage with this one. It still holds Weezy on it, but is definitely less Weezy influenced. Although he still plays homeage to Weezy with the "clock on the wall" reference. Who are we kidding? He had to. Never forget where yo came from. This is actually DRAKE. He found his flow and his cadence, without trying to grab styles from Wayne. That's heard on "Headlines". Anyone who can change their style that many times on one track, deserves a little bit of an applause.
Other guests that appear include Andre 3000, Rihanna (my least fav song on the album), Rozay, Stevie Wonder and others.
"We'll be Fine" is my absolute favorite. GOOD GOD. Production was handled by 40 and Tminus for this one, and they went crazy for this one. The production on here sticks a fist into your chest, and it feels good. It feels damn good. Other production on the album include the Weeknd, Chantal Kreviazuk (WHAT! Curaze), Just Blaze, Jamie XX and more. Drake himself even co-produced three songs, and it's nice to see him test those waters. An eclectic mix, for an eclectic album. Every song is different and has a different vibe to it with the same message.. Drake has grown up.

My favorite lines include:

You know, just tryna make it. Staying up all night, work and sports all day, and trying to build.. something. I still say "amazing" way too much and don't have a Halloween costume. The Greenroom is officially my favorite spot, just like you promised. Redman is still that dude, even when he's solo, I will see him live for the rest of my life. The screening of the Tribe documentary was so good that I went twice. Grippin Grain was, is, and always will be my favorite day of the month. Four Loko is still running through our veins and it hurts a pain that's so good. Fall is here, and so are fall boots! I need to dye my hair. I love the color red right now, and deep reds. We ended up cabbing last night, and this Russian cabbie was hella trying to take us home. I guess that shows how slizzered we were.. at like 11:30. TIME AND TEQUILA JUST KEPT FLOWING. Surprisingly, the mix of vodka, beer, tequila and crown didn't upset my insides. Maribeth got a little down, and I tend to let her stay there cause her second wind hits like a tornado.. then she all about it. I love her.. and Kaitlin. These broads are fire.

These past few weeks have been crazy. I've made life choices and party choices. I can't remember the last time I've actually slept during the night. I've always hated when people say that, "I haven't slept in weeks". I considered it to be an act or a phony testament of how cool that person is.. but fuck! Seriously, I haven't slept in weeks.

so, go ahead and get lost..
Good things have happened, bad things have happened. Some how though, I've been learning to accept bad things a little better now. So much bad shit happens to me, and a lot of it is my own fault.. so why should I host a pity party for myself when I'm the one who made the invitations? No fucking more. There's a lot of good going on right now, and I choose to pay attention to that, and nothing else.

I've met soooo many amazing people these past few weeks, it's ridiculous. I'm so thankful for everything going on right now.. even with all the bad, annoying shit.

Maseo was amazing. He played more disco and funk than hip hop which wasn't minded at all. The crowd was minimal, but fuuuck, who needs a crowd when the music is that good. I feel like sometimes people don't understand that you can attend a show for the music, without giving a fuck about anything else.

Kings of Leon was a blast. Nothing like being front stage for a huge concert. Is there something ridiculous attractive about guitarists smoking? Really though, every time he took that cigarette and placed it in between the strings and the bridge of his guitar, I thought I was going to bust a nut.. right there.

University held a speaking by Jeff Chang. Jeff Chang is the author of "Can't Stop, Won't Stop". A piece of literature that every single person who appreciates hip hop should pick up. About six years ago, I won a writing award that allowed me to get one book off amazon for free. I ordered "Can't Stop, Won't Stop". The people in charge of the award kind of questioned my actions, but I didn't care. I highlighted that shit to shreds, and had notes all over it like it was a textbook. A falling out with my exboyfriend ended up in him ripping the book to pieces.. and it wasn't until two years after that where I got a second copy for my birthday. This book literally at one point, was my life.. so you can imagine how awe-struck I was meeting him.. and I was with good company. It was a perfect fucking moment in my life, and I'll treasure it forever. Not to mention, I got to meet him. I think I blabbed something in between stomach butterflies and nervous hand-shaking about, "YOU'RE AMAZING! AH". Yeah, "amazing", the only adjective I know. hahaha.

Richard and Marti's birthday wasn't exactly a success, but it certainly was a good time. Whenever I get to see the slur of all of these fucking people, I get all kinds of excited. I love my friends to the death of me, and can't wait for round 2, tonight! Eek!

When it comes to Canada, or football, or fireworks, or hockey.. I instantly feel connected to my dad. So last night's NHL party really hit home. Glad I ended up coming out for that, it was worth every second.

In summary, life is good. Let's hope it stays like this for awhile. Happy weekend. I hope the work I put in will make up for the lack of entries lately.
